A chronic wound is any wound that has not healed within eight weeks or has shown no signs of healing in four weeks. There are various causes of chronic wounds, including diabetes, pressure, and circulation conditions.

Treatment for chronic wounds can vary based on a patient's age, health, and medical background. At the Parrish Wound Healing Center, patients will have access to a multidisciplinary staff and various treatment options, including hyperbaric medicine.
With hyperbaric medicine, patients are placed in hyperbaric chambers where they are exposed to a greater concentration of oxygen—which promotes the healing process in the body. Breathing a higher concentration of oxygen than the normal atmosphere can help wounds heal faster.
