PMC Receives High Marks for Healing

Parrish Medical Center (PMC) has earned a top award for excellence in how employees view their workplace from The Jackson Group, a company serving more than 200 healthcare organizations in the U.S. and Great Britain. The Laureate Award for Workplace Excellence is earned by fewer than five percent of healthcare organizations surveyed by the company.“

To be recognized by employees is among the highest honors any organization can earn,” said George Mikitarian, PMC president and CEO. “It validates our board of directors’ guidance and demonstrates the enthusiasm of our care partners to provide healing experiences to patients and families. This award is an honor deeply appreciated.”

The Laureate Award is earned only after employee survey results are certified and the surveyed organization’s internal work plans for continuous improvement are reviewed.

The Jackson Group, based in Hickory, N.C., works with some 220 clients in 38 states and Great Britain.

“The 2015 survey results are evidence of PMC leadership’s efforts to invest in the hospital’s care partners by making sound management decisions that are well-received by both employees and leaders,” said Alan Jackson, The Jackson Group president. “It’s apparent that leadership has built a very positive work climate.”

The Laureate Award for Workplace Excellence was presented Oct. 16, 2015, at PMC during an announcement ceremony at the hospital. Jackson presented the award to PMC Board Chairman Herman Cole, Jr., and Mikitarian.

Some 76.5 percent of PMCs workforce responded to the survey; a 68 percent response rate is considered statistically significant. Survey results showed that 93.3 percent of employees indicated they are proud to work for PMC, and 92 percent indicated the person to whom they report seriously considers staff suggestions for improving safety or preventing errors. PMC exceeded established workplace excellence criteria.

“Fundamental to Parrish Medical Center’s culture is creating an engaging, healing environment for employees to do and be their best,” Mikitarian said. “Through this, everyone benefits—employees, patients, families—as evidenced by the nationally recognized clinical quality, patient safety, and service results being achieved by our employees, medical staff and volunteers on behalf of the people we serve.”

During the announcement ceremony, PMC Board Chairman Herman Cole spoke about the hospital’s leadership team.

“On behalf of the Board, I recognize and thank the Parrish Medical Center leadership team for creating a healing work environment and taking it to the level of meriting national recognition from outstanding organizations like The Jackson Group,” Cole said.

“As I’ve often said, it matters which hospital you choose,” he added. “It matters to you, me, patients and their families, and to the community we serve. Leadership, employees, medical staff, volunteers, and other PMC care partners working together have created a healing environment that matters. That’s what is happening at Parrish Medical Center.”

PMC has sustained for several years award-winning levels of workplace excellence. In addition to The Jackson Group 2015 Laureate Award for Workplace Excellence, PMC earned the Gallup Great Workplace award in 2010, which recognized the hospital as one of the most productive and engaged workforces in the world. In 2011, PMC was named to Modern Healthcare Magazine’s Top 100 Places to Work in Healthcare.
