Dr. Victor Boodhoo Receives Distinguished Alumnus Award

TITUSVILLE, FLA. (December 6, 2010)— The University of the West Indies (UWI) presented Titusville physician Victor Boodhoo, M.D., with its Distinguished Alumnus Award for distinguished service to medicine and to UWI. Boodhoo graduated from UWI in 1966 when it was a college of the University of London. UWI, with campuses in Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados, has graduated over 7,000 doctors since it started in 1948.
The awards ceremony was held in Barbados in November. Presented by Board Chairman of the UWI Medical Alumni Association, Dr. Michael Hoyos, Boodhoo was one of only three honorees at this event. He joins a select group of only 22 alumni who have been similarly honored in the past 20 years. As a separate honor, Boodhoo also delivered the UWI international conference keynote address on “Family Medicine.” He is also a cofounder of the 1948 Society, the nonprofit Medical Foundation of UWI.
Boodhoo practiced in Jamaica for seven years before moving to Titusville, Fla., where he has been practicing for 32 years. He is a member of the medical staff at Parrish Medical Center where at one time he served as president of the PMC medical staff. Board certified in family medicine and geriatrics, Boodhoo is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and also of the Royal Society of Medicine. He has also been chairman of CME of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, and has been selected every year since 2006 as one of “America’s Top Family Doctors” by the Consumer Research Council.
