PMC Earns Only A Grade in Brevard County

The quote you just read is about you, the care partners of Parrish Medical Center. You have once again been measured against your peers at other hospitals.
You once again lead the field. Getting an ‘A’ is important whenever we’re being graded on anything. Getting an ‘A’ from a national organization focused on the safety, quality and affordability of health care is very special.
Parrish Medical Center is the only Brevard hospital to receive an ‘A’ grade in patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, described in a June 7, 2012 front-page Florida Today story as an “independent, national not-for-profit organization of employer purchasers of health care.”
The individual quoted above is David Knowlton, chairman and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute. He is a former deputy commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health. He is also Leapfrog’s board chairman and chairman of its patient safety committee. Of 2,652 hospitals issued a Hospital Safety Score by Leapfrog Group, just 729 earned an ‘A,’ another 679 received a ‘B,’ and 1,243 were graded at ‘C’ or lower.
On behalf of the PMC Board of Directors, who could not be more proud of your accomplishment, I congratulate you for this extraordinary distinction. We know how a grade like this comes about: you are putting patients first and living our hospital’s mission of “healing experiences for everyone, all the time®”.
It’s not easy to get to the top, and it’s often said that it’s even harder to stay there. This isn’t the last such grade PMC will receive from the Leapfrog Group. As we all know, there are many other quality, safety and care measuring organizations. Your performance shows that this PMC team, working on behalf of patients and our community, will not allow itself to become complacent. There is not a laurel on which you’re comfortable resting. Always challenging ourselves to do better is how great things are accomplished—great things like the people of our community reading that PMC is the only Brevard hospital to earn an ‘A’ inpatient safety.
