PMC Earns A Grade for Patient Safety

New Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and which provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S., were announced today by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog.

Parrish Medical Center (PMC) once again earned an “A,” ranking among the top 1.2 percent safest hospitals in the United States.

In an email to PMC, Tom Zemon from The LeapFrog Group wrote, “With the release of the Fall 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, it’s official: Your hospital has earned ‘Straight As’ in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade since 2012. Your hospital is one of only 72 hospitals across the nation who are able to stake this claim, making it part of an exclusive group consistently dedicated to patient safety. Congratulations on this impressive achievement.”

“As Brevard’s only independent, not-for-profit community hospital, I am incredibly proud of the impeccable and sustained safety record achieved by our talented and dedicated team of care partners,” said George Mikitarian, President/CEO, Parrish Medical Center. “We value and appreciate organizations like The LeapFrog Group who serve to make patient safety a priority and look forward to a day when all of America’s hospitals earn an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade, because every person deserves nothing less,” added Mikitarian.

“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.

”Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, and is fully transparent and free to the public.
