April Sleep Support Group
Do you or someone you know suffer from sleep problems? If so, you are encouraged
to attend this support group meeting on Monday, April 2, from 6 p.m. to
8 p.m. at the Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John, 5005 Port St.
John Parkway (east of the I-95 Port St. John exit). The meetings are held
in the Conference Center by the south entrance (near the sleep center).
This is a free community service. Please call 321-268-6408 to register.
The April 2 meeting will offer information on how to “Eat Your Way
to a Good Night’s Sleep,” presented by Parrish Sleep Disorders
Center Manager Kristina St. Peter, RPSGT.
If you could pick the right foods to help you get the best sleep possible,
wouldn't you? And wouldn't you avoid foods that might hinder your
restful slumber? Some foods help with sleep by stimulating sleep-inducing
hormones, like serotonin and melatonin. Attend this sleep support group
meeting to learn which foods to eat, and which to steer clear of, for
a good night's sleep.
Free Sleep Evaluations by a registered technologist are always available
at A.W.A.K.E. meetings. Sleep apnea can result in depression, diabetes,
morning headaches and also contributes to high blood pressure. However,
the greatest risk from this sleep disorder is stroke or heart attack.
Parrish Sleep Disorders Center of Port St. John is a four-bed sleep center
where studies are done seven days/nights a week for children and adults.
Diagnostic testing is done for sleep apnea, narcolepsy, REM behavior disorder,
maintenance of wakefulness, and nocturnal seizures. Shift-work sleep studies
are done during the day. Continuous follow-up care for Sleep Apnea is
also done for patients with CPAP machines.
