Brevard County Palliative Care

Long-Term Care for Chronic Illness & Disease

Palliative care specializes in the relief of the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illness/diseases. The goal is to improve quality of life for patients and their families.

Who Benefits from Palliative Care Services?

Patients, families, and physicians all benefit from palliative care services. In a long-term care facility, patients with chronic conditions can receive the intensive care they need without straining a hospital’s resources. Additionally, palliative care staff understand the challenges faced by family and friends of their patients, and can assist them with counseling and referrals to community resources.

Is Palliative Care the Same as Hospice?

No. Palliative Care is appropriate at any point in an illness/disease and benefits patients by managing symptoms. And this can be provided at the same time as treatment. In palliative care, it is still expected that the patient will eventually recover, whereas as hospice is designed for end-of-life care.
