Gastrointestinal Care
Gastroenterology is the study, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the
digestive tract and associated organs. These include the esophagus, stomach,
small intestine, large intestine, liver, gallbladder and pancreas.
Parrish Healthcare’s GI department is made up of board-certified
physicians, GI nurses and a GI lab. Jointly, they work with other hospital
departments that have an impact on GI treatment, principally pharmacy,
dietary and radiology.
Our gastroenterology services are recognized for quality and safety by
The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).
Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is one of the easiest ways to find colon cancer and remove
polyps. Colon cancer, if caught early, is one of the most treatable cancers.
Once you’ve had a colonoscopy, you usually won’t need another
one for 10 years.
Men and women should start anticipating their first colonoscopy when they
turn 50. If you are feeling anxious about the procedure, it is possible
to have anesthesia administered beforehand. Anesthesia does increase certain
risk factors, but ultimately the procedure is very safe regardless of
which option you choose. Our team will work with you to make the procedure
as comfortable and convenient as possible.
