Midwives serve as an expectant mother’s partner through labor, delivery, and the first few weeks of a newborn’s life. When you start working with a midwife, you will want someone you feel you can trust and speak openly with. Your midwife will play a major role during the delivery process, and may even deliver the baby themselves—it is important that you feel comfortable speaking up and telling them what you need.
An obstetrician plays an important role in your maternity care, but unlike midwives, they do not have the time to walk patients through every stage of pregnancy and labor. Midwives work closely with obstetricians to coordinate a more comprehensive and attentive care plan.
Services provided by a midwife include:
Midwives do not typically perform C-sections. If you prefer to have a vaginal birth, working with a midwife throughout your pregnancy to prepare for the event may be in your best interests.
The midwives of Parrish Medical Center are specially trained, dedicated professionals committed to providing families with the best birth experience possible. We want to help you obtain the labor experience that you envision. If you want to have a very natural birth experience with minimal medication, our midwives can help you prepare physically and mentally. Out team also monitors the health and wellbeing of mother and child throughout pregnancy to ensure their labor will be safe and successful.
