Youth Sports Physicals

Every summer, physicians from Parrish Medical Group offer pre-participation sports physical events for our community in preparation for the upcoming school year. The events help ensure athletes are in peak health before hitting the field, court or track. Last summer, they completed 260 youth sports physicals during their two pre-participation sports physicals events, continuing their strong commitment to the health and safety of young athletes in the North Brevard community.

For the 2026/2027 school year, a community sports physical event will be held on Saturday, August 8, from 8:00AM to noon at Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John, located at 5005 Port St. John Parkway, Suite 2100, Port St. John, FL 32927.

In addition, this year Parrish Healthcare will host dedicated sports physical events at Astronaut High School, Cocoa High School and Titusville High School for currently enrolled high school students. Student-athletes and their families should contact their school’s designated representative for specific event dates and times:

  • Astronaut High School: Joemaris Torres
    • (787) 690-8174
  • Cocoa High School: Tabitha Thode
    • Thode.Tabitha@brevardschools.org
    • (386) 366-2477
  • Titusville High School: Karina Rejtharek
    • Rejtharek.Karina@brevardschools.org
    • (949) 933-0895

Sports physicals are $10 per athlete, with proceeds supporting the Jess Parrish Medical Foundation and participating high schools. A parent or guardian must accompany student athletes to their physical, and students should wear a t-shirt and shorts to complete the exam. The following PMG providers, assisted by athletic trainers, will conduct the sports physicals: Dr. Anthony Allotta, Rebecca Fagan, APRN and Andreanna Leggett, APRN.

In partnership with Who We Play For, a nonprofit dedicated to eliminating preventable sudden cardiac death in athletes, students also have the option to receive an electrocardiogram (EKG) screening for $20 per athlete. This simple, noninvasive test records the heart’s electrical activity and can help identify irregular heart rhythms, poor blood flow and other potentially life-threatening conditions. Athletes interested in an ECG must register in advance at whoweplayfor.com. Last year, Who We Play For completed electrocardiogram screenings for 191 students.

“Completing pre-participation sports physicals gives us the opportunity to ensure North Brevard student-athletes are physically ready to compete safely,” said Dr. Allotta, fellowship-trained in sports medicine. “If a student has a condition that may prevent participation, we can identify it early and create a plan to address it proactively.”
