Do you suffer from sleep apnea or have a family member or friend who suffers from it? If so, you are encouraged to attend this support group meeting on Monday, December 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John, 5005 Port St. John Parkway, (east of the I-95 Port St. John exit).

The meetings are held in the Conference Center by the south entrance (near the sleep lab). This is a free community service. Please call 321-268-6408 to register. The December 6 meeting will include:
  • What is the best CPAP Mask for you? Choosing the right CPAP mask is an essential part of making your sleep apnea therapy comfortable and effective. If your mask is not comfortable, you are less likely to use it regularly, and you may not realize the maximum health benefits of CPAP therapy. We will take a look at and discuss a wide variety of masks and help you determine which is the best one for you. — Presented to you by Kristina St. Peter, Sleep Center neurodiagnostic supervisor and registered polysomnographic technologist, and Jeff Shields, ResMed territory manager (CPAP machines and parts).
  • Diabetes and Sleep Apnea Sleep apnea is now recognized as a major risk factor for developing Type 2 diabetes. In fact, if you have sleep apnea, you are more than twice as likely to develop diabetes as those who do not suffer from sleep apnea. This holds true even if you are not overweight. It is imperative that we better understand the relationship between diabetes and sleep. Are you at risk for diabetes? — Presented by Tammy Bigos, RN, Parrish Medical Center Diabetes Educator ·
At every A.W.A.K.E. Support Group meeting you’ll have the opportunity to see newer model CPAP machines and masks and receive a free mask fitting if you’d like. A.W.A.K.E. Support Group is a free community service. Please call 321-268-6408 to register. Meetings are held the first Monday each month.
